October 24, 2004 -- October 30, 2004

“Grace and Peace to you this Sabbath day in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ! We welcome you to this time of worship, where we come to celebrate God’s saving grace in and through the death and resurrection of Christ. May your heart and mind be filled anew with God’s presence! Welcome!"

Thought For The Day

Noah's Ark

  1. Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s Ark.
  2. Don’t miss the boat.
  3. Remember that we are all in the same boat
  4. Plan Ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark.
  5. Stay fit. When you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to something really big.
  6. Listen to your inner calls, no matter how strange…It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark!
  7. Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
  8. Build your future carefully in the present, preferably on good foundation (high ground).
  9. Follow divine plan. For safety’s sake, for long journeys travel in pairs and enjoy the company of others.
  10. Speed isn’t always an advantage. Speed isn’t as important as the ability to ride the waves. The snails were on board with the cheetahs. All creatures, regardless of size, are important in the big scheme of things.
  11. When you’re stressed, float a while. In the midst of a storm, trust, be patient and float.
  12. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
  13. No matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Ministries of Worship, Education, and Outreach

Donated Food Needed

When you do your grocery shopping, why not buy two of a particular item, (ie. Pasta, can of soups, cereal, etc). Bring these items to church and donate them to the Food Pantry Box in the church library. Carty and Bob Bates deliver our donation to the local Food Pantry which helps people in our community have who have special needs. Your support of this project would be greatly appreciated. -- United Methodist Women.

Tape Ministry

Do you know a shut-in who would like to hear the word of God through our service on Sunday mornings? Or perhaps you didn’t get to church on Sunday and wanted to hear the message. The Tape Ministry in our church was established for these very reasons—to bring the word of God to everyone. It brings our church closer to those who are not able to attend. There is no charge for the ministry. You may keep the tape or if you would like, you can return them so we may use them again. God’s word and God’s gift are here for you! To request a tape, contact Edgar and Charlotte Moore at 334-1716, Dave Schmidt at 334-4325, or call the church office at 334-3032.

Welcoming New Members to Gettysburg UMC

A number of person have recently expressed interest in uniting with our congregation. How delighted we are to have them so do!—At this moment we are anticipating that a welcoming will take place next Sunday, October 31st, at the 10:30 AM Worship hour. Equally, these persons, as others, are invited to share with Pastor Jay in two “Get acquainted” gatherings that will take place today and next Sunday at 9:15 AM in his office. A “Welcoming Reception” will be held immediately following church on October 31st in the Lounge. For additional information, please contact Pastor Jay (334-3032), or Peggy Hunt (337-0539) our membership chairperson. Welcome!

Canned Goods Labels

A great way to help children’s programs in the area is to collect all your canned goods labels. Simply come pick up some literature on the table in the hallway about what labels to save, and you can help make a difference in after children’s programs! For more information, see Faye Krantz or Natalie in the church office.

Expanding Our Children’s Ministry

We haven’t been, but we should be…providing childcare during the 9:15 AM Sunday School hour. Why? Quit simple! By doing so, our younger parents can come and share together in a small group setting that can be significant in their Christian ministry.—We need your help! We are looking for persons who would be willing to offer their love and care for Nursery age children at the 9:15 AM hour particularly, but also the 10:30 AM hour, as Tammy Lytle (the nursery coordinator for the 10:30 AM hour) is always looking for assistance. Please inquire in our office and/or sign-up on the bulletin board just outside the church office! Thank you!

Gettysburg Lions Club

Gettysburg Lions Club is currently selling fruitcakes for $5.00 and delicious Peanut Brittle for $3.00. If you would like to order some please see Ken Rienheart or call him at 334-1963.

Approaching Advent—a time of worship celebrated with Deborah J. Heisley-Cato and Russell Hart on Tuesday, November 9th from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM at Camp Hebron, 957 Cap Hebron Road, Halifax PA. The fee is $5.00 per person. For more information, please se the church office.

The Biglerville Habit House is ready to be dedicated! On Sunday, November 7 at 2:00 pm. Contact Pastor Herr at 334-5212 for more information on how you can be part of this wonderful celebration!

40 Days of Purpose Continues!

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.”
Colossians 1:9 (niv)

Pray for those whose hearts will be touched by God to accept Christ as their Savior and for those who will be joining our church family during the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign. Ask for God’s special grace to be poured out on any members of our congregation who need to restore broken relationships and experience life together as a church family.

Please Don’t Forget!
There are still more books available to those who need one! They are in Pastor Jay’s office, and if you are in need of one, please contact him and let him know. We do not have any more large print ones, but can get some if needed. Pastor Jay now has audiotapes as well. If you missed the Simulcast—don’t fear! There are copies of it on VHS as well as DVD. If there is anything else you would like information on, please contact the church office at 334-3032, or Pastor Jay and we would be happy to help.

ATTENTION KENNIE'S SHOPPERS!

PEW ENVELOPES! You may have noticed the pew envelopes and on top of the mission can. These envelopes are to be used for donations to the church that are not covered by your regular envelopes. Some examples are mission can donations, special collections, special service offerings, etc. If the envelopes are used, we will be able to add that record to your giving statement. Please be sure to put your envelope number and/or name on the envelope so we know to which account it should be recorded. If you have any questions, please see Fred Myers or Connie Thompson.
